Adult Classes

All students beginning training at the Genbukan Daigo Dojo will be focusing on Ninpo Taijutsu. Classes run year round, and students can begin their training at any time. There is no need to come with previous experience, but always come with good manners.

Regardless of previous experience, new students will begin learning the Genbukan way of falling safely, rolling, punching, kicking, Japanese etiquette, rules of the Genbukan and any additional rules of the Genbukan Daigo Dojo, and basic evasion skills.

In addition, all adult students may attend the Traditional Japanese Weapons classes. It is not mandatory to do so but it is in a student's best interest to try to attend as much as possible.

Students who show adeptness in learning the skills AND a pleasant and caring personality will be asked to test these skills in front of the other students during a grading. At that time, if successful, the student will be forwarded their new rank and begin learniing their next set of syllabus and skills.

Each student must pay a grading fee prior to their grading. Most of this fee is sent directly to Soke Tanemura at the Honbu Dojo in Japan. A small amount is kept by the school. If unsuccessful, the student will be asked to study harder and return to test at a future time. All students at the Genbukan Daigo dojo must show skill, spirit, and compassion during their training and during their test. No student will be allowed to pass to their next rank if they score less than 95 percent.

Adult training is serious business. These techniques are very effective and therefore can be quite painful. All students must show genuine compassion and carefulness with their training partners to avoid injury. Students must learn how to use these techniques to protect themselves and therefore the sacrifice of some pain and sweat is necessary.

What a student puts into their training, they will get out of it.

Training fees are paid in 6 post-dated cheques. Annual membership fees are due in April of each year. A new student who joins must pay their membership fee of $ 35 USD within 30 days of joining the Genbukan Daigo Dojo. Their annual fees will again become due the follwing April.

One final mention regarding annual fees: A student must be currently enrolled in classes and attending on a regular basis AS WELL AS maintaining their annual membership to be a member of the GWNBF. A person cannot stop training and think that by sending their annual fees in, that this somehow keeps them in good standing within the organization. If a student needs some time away for personal reasons but has honest intention of returning within a reasonable time, this is usually ok as long as it is with the Head Instructor's approval and communication continues between both student and teacher. If a student has been kicked out of the Dojo, all of their ranks, titles, and credentials are immediately stripped. It is forbidden to "instruct" others in the techniques learned. These techniques are proprietary information, owned by Soke Tanemura.

All students, regardless of how long they have trained or their rank, are still required to exhibit all the good manners and dedication to the orgnization and their personal teacher. A student may be stripped of their rank or even removed from training if they lose their way and become aggressive, egotistical, rude, or any other behaviour the direct teacher deems as unacceptable. In most cases the behaviour can be addressed and altered in a timely manner. If the student shows no or little willingness to change or accept the teacher's decision on these matters, they will not be allowed to continue their training and both Shibu Cho Wideman and Soke Tanemura will be informed of their behavior and removal from the organization.
