Ninja Kid's Self-Defense Program
This
is a traditional Japanese school whose purpose is to teach real
martial arts to children.
Real
Self-Defence is as important a subject as math, or english, or history
and students enrolled in this program are expected to study and
work hard to acheive high marks in this course! Practice and dedication
are very important.
As
you will see by the online schedule, Children's classes are held
on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6 pm to 7 pm. Fees are paid in 5
post-dated cheques. $ 60 per month plus tax.
Classes
run from September 1st to June 30th each year, with no
classes during the summer holidays. Children can begin at any time.
Classes
are held at the Deer Run Community Association at 2223 - 146 Ave.,
SE., in Calgary.
Genbukan Children's
classes are for those students normally between the ages of 7 and
15. There are some exceptions is certain cases, particularly for
older children. Depending on the parents' wishes and the Head Instructor's
thoughts on the matter, some children "graduate" to the
adult classes.
The
training itself consists of Ninpo Taijutsu (primarily) and Jujutsu.
Modern martial sports such as Aikido, Taekwondo, Judo, and Karate
are only tiny pieces of a much greater "book of knowledge"
that is the Genbukan.
Class time is spent
on etiquette, stretching and fitness training, self-defense techniques,
and fun games or exercises. As with all classes, students should
birng a notebook and take notes and ask questions to help their
understanding.
There
is no sparring and no competitions. We teach good manners; About
not becoming a bully and how to protect yourself from one;
We teach and expect patience and perseverance.
The Genbukan Daigo
Dojo teaches children in effective self-defense techniques as handed
down by Soke Tanemura, head of the Genbukan World Ninpo Bugei Federation.
Our program is designed
to teach children how to become good martial artists. Parents who
wish only to give their child "something to do for an hour
or so" would best look elsewhere to enrol their child. Our
program is VERY different from commercial martial sports schools
and much, much more rewarding.
If
you really want your child to experience true traditional Japanese
training and be able to really defend themselves against attackers,
then this is the program for your child!
All children enrolled
in this program apply to become members of the Genbukan World Ninpo
Bugei Federation. There is an annual fee of $ 35 USD sent to Honbo
Dojo in April of each year. Students starting at other times of
the year have to pay their fees and fill out the forms within 30
days of joining the Genbukan Daigo Dojo. Their annual fees will
be due again every April. Students who do not keep their membership
up to date will lose all their rank and have to reapply and ask
permission to retest to their former rank. This is entirely up to
the discretion of Soke Tanemura.
One final mention regarding
annual fees: A student must be currently enrolled in classes and
attending on a regular basis AS WELL AS maintaining their annual
membership to be a member of the GWNBF. A person cannot stop training
and think that by sending their annual fees in, that this somehow
keeps them in good standing within the organization. If a student
needs some time away for personal reasons but has honest intention
of returning within a reasonable time, this is usually ok as long
as it is with the Head Instructor's approval and communication continues
between both student and teacher.
