BASIC DETAILS:
We do accept new students
at any time of the year, but only if they come
with an open heart and with a good attitude and willingness to learn.
Learning is more than just copying techniques, as we teach and expect
students to commit themselves to good Japanese etiquette and manners
in all things related to the school. This is most important.
An appointment is needed to come and visit
the class and speak with the teacher. At this time it is good to
be prepared to answer a number of questions regarding your reason
for joining, personal history, and so on.
There are no drop-in fees. Students
should feel honored to become a part of the Genbukan as
it is very special, and is full of very good and decent people who
are trying just like you to become very good martial artists and
refine themselves as people.
Students begin, if they are accepted into
the school, with one month of training fees and their uniform purchase.
After a month has passed, the student and teacher will decide if
both wish to continue. If this is good, then the student makes a
6 month commitment to the school by providing 6 post dated cheques
to the school for each of the next 6 months, This happens twice
each year.

About our Training
Traditional
Japanese Ninpo and Jujutsu are to be used for three reasons only:
In defence of yourself,
your loved ones, or your country.
Students are expected
to be of good moral character and to commit to growth in all areas
of their lives. Our goal is to each become a ray of light in a world
of darkness, for the betterment of ourselves and those around us.
Each of us, in our own way, must try to make the world a better
place to live in.
These martial arts are
not to be used for competitions or sport.
Our training begins
with learning how to roll, fall properly without injury, the basics
of striking and blocking, and use of the body to avoid and defend.
From this beginning we have laid a good foundation for further training
in all areas including breaks, locks, chokes, multiple attackers,
strikes, blocks, pins, throws, traditional japanese weaponry, and
philosophy.
Practice and time is
what is required from any potential student, along with kindness
and a committment to both training and fitness. Students also learn
Japanese etiquette and basic Japanese language skills.

Starting out
Every student
begins on a trial period with the school where we can determine
how they interact with the other students, their martial skill,
and their heart.
New students should
be themselves and come in with an open heart and without deception.
It is best if they
try to learn the rules of good manners quickly and follow what is
being taught in a respectful manner. Little things can and will
be corrected but outright rudeness or serious issues with a student
are dealt with immediately.
At any time, a student
can and will be removed from further training if they exhibit such
things as deceit, rudeness, lack of compassion for fellow students,
and anything else that disturbs the school and causes trouble for
the teacher or the students.
Any
student removed from the school will immediately be stripped
of all ranks and it is forbidden to teach any of the techniques
they have learned to anyone else.
Some students may be
given a second chance to correct their behaviour but that is entirely
up to the discretion of the teacher. If a student is removed from
classes, they will no longer be allowed to train at the Genbukan
Daigo Dojo and their name will be sent off to both the Canadian
head of the Genbukan and Honbu Dojo so that they are aware that
the student is unworthy to be a part of the Genbukan.
As a reminder,
all students sign a contract with the school regarding their behaviour.
In that contract is also the stipulation that any training fees
paid are forfeit if a student is removed from classes.
Any student
who has been removed from training forfeits all ranks and any documents
or diplomas are null and void.
