Your First Steps:If you are interested in beginning training at the Genbukan Daigo Dojo, there are some steps you will need to take! Steps A and B are done prior to your onsite meeting at the school. Steps C through H are all done on the day of your meeting. A) Contact the school via the online enrollment form or by sending an email to calgaryninja@shaw.ca expressing your interest to begin and basic details such as age, program requested, start date, etc
B) Set up an appointment time to meet at the school. Make sure to bring workout clothing and good manners. Failure to arrive to your meeting date will result in an automatic deferral for six months. Contact the school well prior to your meeting if a change is required
C) Interview with the Head Instructor discussing your reason for wanting to begin training, past training, commitment level, and expectations. Make sure to bring your Driver's License for I.D. You are also required to fill out the Dojo Visitor Form as mandated by the GWNBF Rules.
D) Work through a Goals Worksheet so that we can set your goals and eventually evaluate your progress in the quarterly reviews each student must complete
E) Fitness Evaluation and setting of your basepoints
F) Review the Goals Worksheet to ensure that the goals you set are reasonable ones for your fitness and commitment level. Completion of your student file will also be done at this point and is part of your quarterly review
G) Request to join the school, if at this time you still wish to begin your training
H) Be accepted or deferred from beginning your training at the school by the Head Instructor
* If you are a new student who has been referred to the school by a current student, you will still have to complete all of the steps above but will automatically be entered into your training. The referring student takes it upon themselves to vouch for your conduct in the dojo.
All students, new or continuing, must behave appropriately in and outside of the school.
The Head Instructor reserves the right to remove a student from training at any time and for any reason. However, this is only done in situations the Head Instructor considers serious enough to warrant it.
Often, a discussion may be enough and correction of the behaviour completed in a timely manner.
