Nature of Training
Classes focus on fitness, etiquette/rei ho, techniques, and traditional
Japanese weaponry.
Students are expected to contact the Dojo if they are unable to
attend class that evening.
Testing is done usually 4 times a year, dependant on how well students
are learning the techniques. Testing will occur when the Head Instructor
is confident about the outcome AND the student has shown a good
heart while training over the months leading up to the test.
At no time can a student demand to be tested. There are
certain requirements concerning a minimum amount of time between
tests but these are guidelines only and some students take much
longer before testing. Ranks within the Genbukan can easily be lost
if a student is acting in a manner which is unworthy of their rank.
Students are expected to wear a black t-shirt underneath their
black Do - Gi. Socks, and hachimaki (headband) are optional. Students
should also bring their notes and syllabus with them to every class.
Students are asked to participate in all Genbukan functions
if possible. Students help in other areas of the school is greatly
appreciated.
Training should be focused and with great determination, but always
with compassion and kindness for each other.
